Green milk delivery service with the Energy Unit
Temperature-controlled transports are typically carried out with diesel vehicles. Farmer Jan-Hendrik Langeloh prefers to rely on sustainable electric mobility. That's why he decided to have an e-transporter put together for the delivery of milk and other fresh produce - the heart of which is the Energy Unit Split Large from LEAB.
Energy from the roof, energy in the car
This milkman drives emission-free - because the dairy farm Reitbrook now also supplies its customers in the Hamburg area electrically. "It was a long-cherished dream to have an electric car in the fleet," says Jan-Hendrik Langeloh. He runs the farm, which has been delivering fresh produce directly to the door since 1999. "Electric delivery suits us so well because our photovoltaic system supplies the electricity for the drive and cooling. This gives us a true zero-emission solution," emphasises Jan-Hendrik Langeloh. The challenge: a van like his is not available off the shelf. The vehicle was customised with selected components.
Sustainable power supply for refrigeration
Since there is no combustion engine in e-transporters that can supply the refrigeration system with energy, a second power source had to be installed in addition to the battery for the drive. To make this as easy as possible for refrigerated vehicle builders, LEAB developed the Energy Unit. With it, a standard was created that is available in various capacity sizes for different vehicle models and ensures uninterrupted refrigeration. The system offers a lot of flexibility as well as high quality and reliability.
It simply makes sense to use the electricity directly where it is produced instead of sending it all over the country first. You need strong batteries and smart solutions for that.
Many benefits, even more energy
Saving immense space, the unique flat lithium-ion battery of the Energy Unit Split disappears behind the passenger seat, so that it can still be used. Thanks to the plug-and-play system, installing and securing the electrics is also uncomplicated.
Independently on the move all day
In the case of the dairy farm transporter, the Energy Unit Split Large can autonomously supply the refrigeration system for more than 3,000 charging cycles and the energy quantity of 5.4 kWh is sufficient for up to seven hours of operation - in midsummer. "In winter, the charge even lasts significantly longer because not as much heat penetrates when the refrigeration is opened," says Jan-Hendrik Langeloh.
Electro mobility is future proof
He doesn't want to go back to combustion engines and the associated refrigeration systems: "I won't buy any more diesels. Because converting to refrigerated transport always means intervening in the vehicle system, he says. "This not only voids the warranty, but reliability and durability are often issues. And who knows how long you will still be allowed to drive into Hamburg with a diesel," Jan-Hendrik Langeloh points out. He is certain: the future at dairy farm Reitbrook belongs to electro mobility - and smart solutions such as the Energy Unit.
