Continued focus on sustainability: our carbon footprint for 2022
First things first: LEAB remains climate-neutral in 2022. We have offset our emissions by supporting a wind farm project in Turkey. And most importantly: Our team is committed to the issue - in large and small ways.
Facts and figures
The bottom line for us as a company is a 17% increase in CO2 emissions compared to the previous year. Considering that we doubled the size of our business premises in the middle of the year and have also grown in terms of personnel, this is a figure with which we can be highly satisfied. However, we won’t be resting on our laurels - there is still plenty to do and we have already planned additional measures to further reduce our emissions.
One step back - two steps forward
When we expanded our business premises, a large number of ecological considerations were factored into the decision-making process. The additional emissions due to the larger surface area and the higher energy consumption have had a negative impact on our balance sheet in the short term, but we are already seeing the first results. Particular highlights are our new pellet heating system and our photovoltaic system, which diligently produces green electricity for us. Among other things, this is used to charge our e-vehicles, which make up an ever-increasing share of our fleet - a goal we set ourselves for 2021 after the most recent climate assessment.
Other measures we have implemented:
E-bike leasing offer
Construction of a new, covered bicycle parking area (expansion already planned)
Switch to a sustainable reusable trade fair construction system
Catering from the region
Orchard and wildflower meadow on the company premises
Creation of a 70 m long hedgerow on the company's premises, planted with native woody plants
Building a refuge for reptiles on the company premises
Managing Director Richard Westerkamp is pleased with the developments at LEAB.
The fact that we buy apples from the region may not make a huge difference to a company’s carbon footprint. But it's important that the issue of sustainability is integrated more and more into the teams' considerations and decisions as a matter of course. And I'm pleased that it's working so well.
Breaking new ground
One of many examples of the team's awareness of the topic is the new trade fair stand concept that Marketing and Sales developed together. The result is a flexible and reusable modular system that we will continue to use at various trade fairs for many years to come. The topics of environment and sustainability will be explored further in June at our next LIFT day - the workshop for the whole team at the GreenTEC Campus in Enge-Sande.
Offsetting in Turkey
We intend to offset our emissions by supporting a wind farm in the Turkish province of Mersin. The aim is to ensure that the Turkish power grid is also increasingly supplied with renewable energy. While supporting such projects is close to our hearts, we will of course continue to work on reducing our emissions to an absolute minimum. We will keep you informed of our progress.

Our approach to carbon neutrality
Protecting the climate is one of the greatest tasks of our time - and we will be devoting even more attention to it in the future. Together with ClimatePartner, LEAB has committed itself to becoming a climate-neutral company.

The next step is taken: we are climate neutral
Together with the company ClimatePartner, we have drawn up our carbon footprint for the year 2021. We have now compensated for the resulting emissions and thus earned the label "climate-neutral company".
